Smith, who got his jockey license at 16 in 1982, has been one of the top riders since the early 1990s. He has won all three parts of the Triple Crown: Preakness Stakes (1993), Kentucky Derby (2005), Belmont Stakes (2010).

Mike is a friend that I have counted on to be there for me the same way that Hall of Fame Trainers have counted on him to show up for the big money races! He is and always will be my best friend.

A rider does not make it to the Hall of Fame without the whole package. You don’t win more than 5,000 races – including 15 in Breeders’ Cup events – just riding good fillies.

Mike Smith is a talented athlete and consummate professional who truly loves his sport and those who follow it. He conducts his craft with a polish born of experience and enthusiasm, relates to fans and the media in a commendable manner, and is a boon to the racing game. Bottom line, he’s all-around class act – someone I’m genuinely honored to know.
